Doors... who knew that I would have love to photograph doors so much. The doors all around Nepal are so beautiful in the design, the color, and the historical style - they are fantastic! The design is so detailed and intricate, and the colors are bold and eye catching! What's not to love? Just imagining the rich history and story of the lives that have passed through these doorways over the years made walking through these alley ways that much more special.
Spending most of my time photographing architecture around the southwest Montana, the doors around Nepal are different in style, design, and color it was definitely a change of pace for me. I was drawn to these fantastic pieces of architecture, stopping every hundred yards to photograph them (I have the most patient husband ever, ha!) Here are a couple of my favorite doors and door frames from out time in Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. Enjoy:)
The contrast in color from the door to the bricks is gorgeous. I love all the detail in the frame, also the cracks leading up the side of the building. It's beautiful!
The reds and all the cracks in this door tell a story of history and life. I am enthralled with the carvings throughout the door and frame. Love!!
This door stands proudly in Durbar Square. The colorful statues, colorful frame, and texture on the door really drew me to it.
Though not technically a door, this courtyard has amazing design in all of the windows. The wood carvings mixed with the brick is truly art!
These doors line the busy streets of Kathmandu. The colors and textures are so eye catching.
The grandness surrounding these temple doors are what make this site extraordinary. I love all the detail!
The combination of the the wood and brick is incredible. I love the color in the moss growing on the walkway - it adds so much character and sense of history to an already beautiful architectural site.
Blue is my favorite color, so obviously I was drawn to the bold blues and teals of this storefront. Incredible!
